Make a Bucket!

What makes up a Bucket of Love?

These kits are sealed buckets (ideally with a lid) containing essential supplies and information, clearly labelled on the outside in English, Ukrainian and Polish.

The aim is not to provide a vast supply of each item but enough to fulfil an immediate need whilst being light enough to carry.

These content lists have been designed to be consistent with the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) recommendations.

What do I need to do?

All you need to do is:

  1. Find your bucket
  2. Fill it with the specified contents (see ‘Women’s’ and ‘Babies’ content pages)
  3. Print off and fill in a contents label
  4. Attach the label securely to the outside of the bucket
  5. Drop it at a designated collection point !

Please make sure you clearly mark the size (Women’s) or appropriate age range (Baby's) on the label where indicated.

If after filling your bucket with specified essentials, you find you have extra room and would like to include any other common sense items (first aid, toiletries, other baby-care supplies etc) please do but avoid making the bucket too heavy. Please list any additional items onto the bottom of your label under ‘OTHER’.

These labels can be found at the bottom of each ‘contents’ page and are ready to print!

Please DO NOT  tape closed the bucket yourself as each kit will be checked before being sealed, loaded and sent to Poland.

Keeping Costs Down

How to help without breaking the bank!

Putting a hygiene kit together can add up. All donations are gratefully received even if your bucket doesn't contain the full list of contents. Please just use common sense to prioritise items.

GET TOGETHER! A good alternative is to club together with several friends, your class, group or neighbours to compile a bucket if a full kit is too much.

DONATE FOOD! Or you can contribute to the food collection (please see Other Items) of specifically requested supplies which will also be going out to Poland.

You can certainly include items you already own as long as they are unused and where necessary sealed and in date.

The Bucket!

What kind of bucket do I need?

You can use a bucket that you already have as long as it has a handle, is intact and thoroughly clean. The ideal bucket has a lid but if you don’t have/can’t get one, we can seal it with polythene for you before sending.

  • For a full Women’s Kit you need a 10 - 15 litre bucket

  • The full Babies Kit is bulkier and needs a 15 - 20 litre bucket

Below are some examples of buckets that would work well:

  • These white plastic buckets with tamper proof lids are ideal. (15 litres for £8.50 from Amazon)

  • Collapsable rubber fishing buckets with lids are good but more expensive. (10 litres for £13.99 from Amazon)

  • Or these car detailing buckets look perfect and are cheaper. Who knew. (20 litres for £8.38 Car Parts for Less).

We are about to approach some supply companies to see if they would donate a number of buckets thus helping to keep the cost down for those wishing to compile a Bucket of Love on a budget. If you are a supplier and would be willing to get involved, please email: help@bucketsofloveukraine.com
