The buckets and food donations will be going out to a Polish initiative, Mocny Convoy founded by Marek Mocny and Fr. Tadeusz Budacz, Pastor of the Polish Catholic Parish of St. Barbara in Krzykaw - Małobadz.
Father Tadeusz and his team have worked for many years assisting Ukrainians in need and with an existing initiative, wasted no time in helping refugees fleeing the war.
Marek writes:
“From the first day of the war, we rolled up our sleeves and started humanitarian aid. We have been to every border with Ukraine, we have also been to hospitals in Ukraine, where immediate help was needed. We put our lives in danger, but seeing the suffering of young children, we cannot remain indifferent.”
The team reports that the initial influx of refugees were predominantly Ukrainian’s with slightly more means, thus able to escape more quickly. The people we are now seeing are sometimes coming across the border with only what they are wearing.
The generosity and hospitality of the Polish people has been a lesson to the world. Many without large resources themselves, have used savings to help buy food and supplies for the refugees. Many of these savings, have now run out.
Susannah is a former aid worker who worked in Haiti after the 2010 earthquake for Sean Penn’s J/P HRO (now CORE). She then worked for Iain Duncan Smith’s cross party Think Tank, The Centre for Social Justice (CSJ) in Westminster. Whilst there, the CSJ produced the seminal report on Human Trafficking and Modern Day Slavery It Happens Here which led to the Governments commission of the first Modern Day Slavery Act in 2015.
Susannah is currently a full time mother and lives with her husband, two year old son and four step-children in Hampshire.
Her hands somewhat tied and wanting to help the current dire situation, Susannah launched Buckets of Love combining her interest in both Emergency Relief and Human Trafficking & Modern Day Slavery.
Edyta and Andrew have been running successful collections of emergency supplies across North Hampshire since the first days of the war. When living in Poland, Edyta worked with Fr. Tadeusz Budacz and so immediately started collecting donations to support his invaluable work on the ground.
The couple have now sent out multiple articulated lorries full of essential supplies to the cause; coordinating collections around the County, centrally palletising donations before loading and sending the vehicles. Their efforts in this initiative have been unreserved, all whilst working and running their business Delicatessen 13 in Andover.
Susannah is partnering with Edyta and Andrew to get Buckets of Love to Ukrainians in need.
These churches have kindly agreed to act as collection points for the buckets and donations as well as spreading awareness of the initiative:
